The advantages of living abroad.

Author Kim Rockman

Getting an international job will broaden your horizon!

Here are a few things I learned since moving abroad.

1. Meeting all kinds of people from all over the world.

Getting to know the culture and experience through different interactions with people either at work or social gatherings can give you a better insight into the country and people. There is a large expatriate community and, it is continuing to grow. Social media platforms have so much to offer! Facebook has groups created by ex-pats to support and share general information. Joining these groups can help you settle in faster because most people only feel fully settled in within the first 3-6 months of arrival.

2. Figure things out as you go.

Step out of your comfort zone by finding your way around the city. Go exploring to familiarize yourself and get lost in the city because that is the adventure! You'll discover so many different things as you go along. Learn the new language being spoken all around you and try to embrace the unique cultural experience.

3. Your way of thinking will change.

When you move to another country, you will gain a global mindset and realize that the world has many opportunities for you if you go looking for them. Are you willing to take the risk of stepping out of your comfort zone and unlocking opportunity that awaits you?

4. Being homesick comes with the territory.

Having to spend a length of time away from family and friends can make you miss what is comfortable back home, but handling The culture shock of meeting new people, learning their ways are part of the experience. Having an open mind will help the changes become less unbearable, and so you become culturally aware of the many fascinating cultures surrounding you. The adventures and experiences learned about the people can help you start to embrace your new life.

5. Stay connected with people and network.

The more people you meet in your career path the, more of an advantage it becomes. Opportunities are spread faster through word of mouth, so knowing people gives you the advantage to know possible prospects occurring.
